Alternate Career?

This was a question asked to me by my colleagues. I had an answer which amused everyone in my office. Lot of my friends also have asked this question and they are surprised (some of them shocked). Ok what I want to do if I was not working as a blah blah blah (my current position). I would be running a grocery store and a darshini. Off all the business why grocery store and darshini? I really don’t have an answer. I like the kind of challenge it throws at you. In a grocery store, how much you want to store?? In a darshini, how many idli’s, dosas etc you make per day?

When I was in Bangalore, I used to visit shanti sagar every day for my breakfast and dinner. I used to watch how the owner (his name starts with S) sits on the chair and does business. S was from south canara. He had a bachelors degree in commerce. S worked with a big transportation company in mumbai for 3 years as an accountant. So he had some corporate experience. I and S always used to have long discussions on weekends. The topics would range from politics to sports. He was well read. I liked the way he did his business. He always used to tell me it’s a challenge to run darshini. He used ask me, take one month off from your job and run this darshini. Then you will know how difficult it is to run a darshini. I also like it for the fact that you will be interacting with people from different region and age group. He had friends from all walks of life. He used to be very friendly with everyone. S used to be very good at estimating how many idli’s, dosas etc has to be prepared each day (experience?). If there is some food left he used to give it to poor people.

Why grocery store? Obvious, you need grocery for your darshini. Instead of buying it from another store why not open a store. Darshini is a 100% sure shot profit provided you maintain cleanliness and quality/taste. If not alternate may be I will own a darshini and a grocery store when I retire from this corporate world. I have to come up with some funny names for my store and darshini. Any suggestions?

I searched for this song and couldn't find a full version of it. This song is by Neil diamond - Sweet caroline. They play this song at the bottom of 7th innings at all red sox home games.

What a Game!

South Africe beat Australia by one wicket with one ball to spare to win the series 3 - 2. The interesting part of the game was SA chased 434, highest score set by any team. I wanted to buy this series on net. Because of hectic work schedule, I totally forgot about this. I will buy the DVD whenever it is released. I want to watch Ricky Ponting and Gibbs hammering bowlers. I was kind of disappointed with Aussies loosing the game and the series. I am a big Aussie fan. SA watchout, Aussies will be back with a bang in Test series.

India won the second test by 9 wickets. What a performance by debutant Munaf patel and the ever reliable Jumbo and Jammy. Kumble reached a milestone, 500 wickets. Congrats!! He is aiming for 600. I hope he gets there. Only Muralitharan and Warne have achieved this feat. I think the Indian team management should give a break to sachin. He is not performing and giving a break would be a good idea at this point of time. He should be rested for the entire Eng series. This will give Laxman a chance in Mumbai.

ನಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷೆ ಮೇಲೆ ವ್ಯಾಮೊಹ ಇರಬೇಕೊ ಬೆಡವೊ? ಇತ್ತಿಚಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ನೊಡಿದರು ಅಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆ ಮಾತಡುವ ಜನ. ನಾನು ಪಿಜ್ಜಾ ಕಾನ್ರರಗೆ ಹೊಗಿದ್ದೆ ನನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರ ಜೊತೆ. ಅವರೆಲ್ಲ ಪಿಜ್ಜಾ ತರೊಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಳಿದರು. ನಾನು waiter ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬಿಸಿ ನೀರು ಕೊಡು ಅಂತ ಕೆಳಿದೆ. ಹಾಂಗದ್ದಿದ್ದೆ ತಡ ಅವನು ನನ್ನ ಗುರಾಯಿಸಿ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಹೊರೆಟು ಹೊದ. ನನಗೆ ಎನು ಅಂತ ಗೊತ್ತಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ೨೦ ನಿಮಿಷ ಅದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನು ಪಿಜ್ಜಾ ತಂದ ಅದರೆ ಬಿಸಿ ನೀರು ತರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಬ್ಬಳು ಹುಡುಗಿ ಬಂದು "How are you doing today? Is everything alright?" ಅಂತ ಕೆಳಿದಳು. ಅವಳಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬಿಸಿ ನೀರು ಕೊಡುತ್ತೀರ ಅಂತ ಕೇಳಿದೆ. ಅವಳು ಕೂಡ ಗುರಾಯಿಸ್ತಾ ನಿಂತಳು. ಆಗ ನನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನೊಬ್ಬ Can I have some hot water please? ಅಂತ ಕೇಳಿದ. ತೊಗೊಳಪ್ಪ ೨ ನಿಮಿಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಸಿ ನೀರು ತಂದು ಕೊಟ್ಟಳು. ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗು ಅ ಹುಡುಗನಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಬರುತ್ತದೆಯಂತೆ. ಆದರೂ ಎಕೆ ಇ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರ?

ಯಾಕೆ ಜನ ಕನ್ನಡನ ಕಂಡರೆ ಹಾಗಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಇದಕ್ಕೆಲ್ಲಾ ಎನು ಕಾರಣ? ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಸ್ಥಿತಿನು ಹೀಗೆ ಇದೆಯಾ? ಬಹುಶ್ಯಹ ಇಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿಕೆ ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಶುರು ಅಗಬೆಕು. ತಂದೆ,ತಾಯಿ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿಸಬೇಕು. ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಅಂದರೆ ಅವರಿಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಬರಬೇಕು ಹಾಗು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ ಇರಬೇಕು. ಕೆಲವರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿತರೆ ನನ್ಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಾ ಅಂತ? ನನ್ನ ದೂರದ ಸಂಬಧಿ ಪದವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಣ ಪದಕ ಪಡೆದ. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಣ ಪದಕ ಪಡೆದು ಎನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀಯ ಅಂತ? ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಪಟ್ಟು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸುವ ಬದಲು ಹಂಗಿಸುವುದು ಸರಿಯೆ? ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಣ ಪದಕ ಪಡೆಯುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ. ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯ ಗುರಿ ಮಗ/ಮಗಳು ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಬೇಕು ಇಲ್ಲ ಅಂದರೆ ವ್ಯೆದ್ಯನಾಗಬೇಕು ಅಂತ ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮಗ/ಮಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡಾನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಲಿಯಬೇಕು ಅಂತ ಆಸೆ ಪಡುವ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಮಂದಿ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ? ಓ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯರೆ ಮಗುವಿಗೆ ಅಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕನ್ನಡಾನು ಕಲಿಸಿ.

ಬಸವಣ್ಣ ಹಾಗು ಬಸವಕ್ಕ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಾಗುಣಿತ ತಪ್ಪಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹಾಗೆ ಓದುವಾಗ ತಿದ್ದಕೊಳಿ.

My friend S taught me how to type unicode text in blogspot. Damn! It gave me some error. Anyways, I wanted to post my fav song in kannada. I tried to key it in kannada, but at 1.00 am EST I gave up. Boston Times

This is my first post. My friends S and H inspired me to start my own blog. I started writing this in kannada using Baraha. But it was time consuming. Took 30 minutes to write 3 lines. I was getting bored so switched to english. But will learn Baraha quickly so that I can write in Kannada. I love Kannada.

India won one day series this week against Pakistan. Big relief after loosing the test series. We did play well in the test series except the last test. This year has been pretty bad for Boston sports lovers. We didn't make it to super bowl and also world series. Pats lost because of injuries and some pathetic performances against mediocre teams. Redsox, we were defenitely short of a pitcher. We might make it to NBA play offs. Celetics are doing ok. They are 9 -2 at this moment. Lost a close game to Cavs yesterday. If you are a redsox fan go and watch Fever Pitch. It's a nice movie. They had to change the ending of this movie because redsox won world series title last year.

Watched couple of movies last week. Firewall and Manchurian Candidate. Thought Firewall will be an action movie but turned out to be an emotional drama. It was defnitely not worth watching it in a theater that too on first day of its release. Manchurian Candidate was a good movie. Need lot of patience to watch this movie.

Feb 14th was Valentine's day. Saw on orkut people wishing each other happy valentine's day. I feel this is just a marketing gimmick. One of my friend (India) told me that they painted their office in red. Interesting!!
